Due to the constantly changing landscape of the music sector, the Music & Copyright industry has faced a severe disruption to its business model. In particular, the exponential growth of streaming has created new challenges and problems.
Streaming services such as Spotify and YouTube have dramatically increased the number of transactions per month, while simultaneously, the revenue per transaction has decreased to fractions of a cent.
Matching millions of music streaming transactions (with poor metadata) against a database of millions of songs has also caused problems. Many copyright organisations have failed to cope with this increase in data volumes, meaning that most music usage is not being properly recorded or remunerated. In many cases, the license income that should have been paid to song writers and music publishers has remained with streaming companies.
Here at Spanish Point Technologies, we have recognised the importance of creating Licensing & Royalty Distribution systems which can provide music rights organisations, writers and artists with the payments they deserve.
Spanish Point have built and deployed architectures for horizontal database scaling using Azure SQL Database to provide high levels of scalability for organisations such as the Irish Music Rights Orgisation (IMRO)
We have also increased the Canadian Musical Reproductions Rights Agency’s revenue by processing billions of records in a short time with Azure SQL Database. To find our more read here or see our video case study below:
